Good News - September 2022

Hopewell Area SD Moving to Remote Instruction on Wednesday, April 30, 2025
Due to continued road closures taking place throughout the Hopewell Area School District overnight which will not be cleared prior to morning bus runs, the Hopewell Area School District will move to remote instruction on Wednesday, April 30. No district transportation will take place on Wednesday.

The district realizes that power and Internet are not yet functioning in many district locations. However, at this time, Duquesne Light is reporting that power should be restored sometime overnight. So, it is our intention to operate school as a flexible instruction day on Wednesday, April 30. Should that mode need to change to a complete closure due to widespread Internet access issues, then another email will be sent with that update by 8AM.

Should anyone not have direct access to FID packets or be able to join classes virtually, students will be provided with adequate time to complete and turn in work as needed. Please communicate with teachers and principals as needed if your student has any issues.

Good News - September 2022

HOPEWELL HIGH SCHOOL
“GOOD NEWS”
September 2022

Our Hopewell High School Vikings continue to demonstrate their purpose, passion, and pride in many ways!

The Viking Pride Marching Band participated in the 44th annual Beaver County Invitational Marching Band Festival at Geneva College on September 17 to a huge crowd. The show was very well received! The marching band will be participating in the South Fayette Band Festival on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00pm along with schools from Allegheny and Washington Counties.

The Viking Pride Marching Band will march in the upcoming Homecoming Parade with our senior float following close behind. We have also accepted the invitation to march in the Beaver County Veteran’s Day Parade held on November 11 in New Brighton.

Our Hopewell High School guitar class is off to a great start. This semester 17 students are strumming and picking their way through the method books and learning at a faster rate than private students. Big thanks to the district for supplying the awesome guitars and equipment to make this class a success.

Congratulations to HHS Senior, Noah Salter, for advancing to WPIAL Golf Individual Finals, Monday 9/26.

Mrs. Lori Colangelo, HHS Tech Ed/STEM Teacher was selected to present at the 43rd national Future of Education Teacher Conference in January.

The HHS STEM program is continuing to put together our Digital Manufacturing lab. Thanks to Mrs. Colangelo and Mrs. Korchnak and our tech department, we converted our former Cyber School Classroom into a room full of workstations for hands on learning. We have 3D printers, a robotic arm, a Curio (which is like a Cricket), 23 Internet of Things Kits, Sphero Robots and drones. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a compound microscope and a Hollow Lens 2.

Much of the equipment and funding was from our teachers and students working with Robert Morris University on the Benedum grant. We are also working with the University of Maryland in Robotics, using a new coding program that combines Block-based and Text Based coding. Additionally, Mrs. Covalt, Mrs. Korchnak, and Mrs. Colangelo participated in training this summer for the STEM Excellence in Engineering Equity Study.

Alumni News: Brian Saunier, one of our earliest HHS Cyber Academy graduates, Class of 2018, was able to earn his pro card in the AMA Supercross circuit and is now considered a pro rider. He worked in our cyber academy remotely for a couple years while regularly training and riding in Georgia.

Congratulations to the Hopewell High School Homecoming court voted on by the Senior Class!

Get ready for Homecoming weekend. The HHS Assembly during the school day and the parade (6:30 start) will be held on Thursday, October 6. Following the parade, the football boosters will be hosting a Pep Rally in the stadium. Homecoming football versus Keystone Oaks will be Friday, October 7, 2022. The cheerleaders are hosting a MORP dance at the HS on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Let’s go Vikings!

HHS hosted Open House on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Thank you to everyone: teachers, secretaries, counselors, and other staff, who helped make the night a success. NHS greeters, the BC Career and Technology Center representatives, and local military recruiters also were present.

Congratulations to Section Champion Hopewell High School Boys Golf team! Their season record so far is 11-1. They will participate in the WPIAL team championships.
