TEACHER AND STUDENT NEWS

NHS and HEA sponsored the Thanksgiving Food Dive and collected food items and donations across the school district and at the last football game. As a result of the generosity of our school community we were able to supply 44 Hopewell families with a turkey and an abundance of food to support their holiday meals. Service to others is a key tenet of the NHS student expectations. Happy Thanksgiving.

Mrs. Brittany Covalt, Physics teacher, and the AP Physics 1 class received a grant from BCET to compete in the Kidwind challenge in the 2022-2023 school year.

From Mrs. Esther Aloia, FCS teacher, Baking and Desserts students participated in a 4 week baking challenge sponsored through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The goal was to focus on a specific dessert each week while raising awareness for blood cancer research. As part of our baking challenge we prepared copycat Crumble cookies, pastries, and pies! All food items are being sold in a bake sale this week. All proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

It's been a busy month here in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Each student in the Baking and Desserts classes prepared a pumpkin pie from scratch to take home for Thanksgiving!

This month FCCLA prepared and delivered a lasagna to a local family in Aliquippa as part of the Lasagna Love program. Lasagna Love is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing free homemade lasagnas to individuals in need. The concept is simple — volunteers make homemade lasagna for people from online requests they receive and deliver them to the recipient’s residence within a designated geographical area. Think of it as spreading kindness — one pan of lasagna at a time.

Mrs. Aloia received a grant through King Arthur Flours "Bake for Good" program. Students enrolled in Baking and Desserts this spring will learn the math and science of making bread from scratch. Each student will receive a recipe booklet, dough scraper, bread bag and twist tie. Additionally, flour and yeast will be sent so students can make two loaves, one to keep and one to share with someone in need or as an act of kindness. We are looking forward to participating in this program!

Our Guidance counselors took 35 students to Blackhawk High School for their annual College and Career Fair. Students were able to meet and speak to representatives from over 100 postsecondary, vocational, and career programs.

Luke Ujhazy, Alex Schwartz, Jalise Gary, Katelyn Biskup, Kristina Lucas, Kylie Zito participated.

On November 11 the Viking Pride Marching Band performed in the Beaver County Veterans Day Parade in New Brighton. It was a very rainy day, but our students did a fantastic job honoring our veterans!

Mrs. Lori Colangelo, Computer Teacher, received a grant to take 25 kids on a field trip to Discovery Day 2022, Sponsored by Pittsburgh Robotics. Students received a hands-on experience exploring drones, self-driving cars, robots, and AI Machine Learning.
