5th grade Mathematics uses the Everyday Math series that has been used since kindergarten.  In 5th grade we will continue to build on and add to the skills learned in 4th grade.  Students will have a Student Reference book that helps explain what is being taught in class.  They will also have a Math Journal (workbook) which will be completed mainly in class and also a workbook for each unit which will have pages that are for homework.  As we move through the year, instant recall of the multiplication facts is vital.  Please practice with your child to reinforce the facts.  While I still prefer flashcard, there are a number of websites and apps out there that your child can use to practice.  One of my favorites is www.freerice.com. Please remind your child to ask questions when they are unsure and I am always will to work with them during our 5th period study hall or when possible before or after school.
