Curriculum

Reading
 Reading instruction is provided according to your child's individual IEP goals and is based upon their instructional reading level. Students who receive Reading instruction in Learning Support will be using the current district reading series. The "Wonders reading series allows students to receive instruction within grade level curriculum. The series provides materials at modified reading levels, while still focusing on grade level skills.  Three grades are given in Reading each week. One each for vocabulary,story comprehension , and a "cold read" assessment.
 
Spelling
 Weekly Spelling words are introduced at the start of each new story in Reading. Students will complete daily activities associated with their Spelling words. Both Spelling skills and handwriting skills are assessed through these exercises.
Day 1: Words are written 2x each.
Day 2: Words are put in alphabetical order.
Day 3: Sentences are written
Day 4: Sentences are edited and corrected and final draft written.
Day 5: Spelling Test
  
   There will be 2 weekly Spelling grades given. One grade for the weekly spelling test and one for the sentences. Sentences will be graded for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
 
English
Each week a new grammar skill is introduced. One English grade will be given each week for the skill being covered.
 
Math
Math instruction is based upon your child's IEP goals and is presented at  instructional level. The Everyday Math curriculum is used and modified as needed to meet individual needs. Math grades are given on "Math Boxes" completed with each Lesson as well as unit tests and reviews.
 
Science and Social Studies
All Science and Social Studies instruction takes place within your child's homeroom. Tests, testing format and written assignments are adapted as needed according to individual IEP needs.
