Language Arts:

Homework for August 30, 2017 :

1.  None
***We are currently working on the reading story titled, "Dr. Jekll and Mr. Hyde!"

*You can always read an Accelerated Reader Book!  This will be a Language Arts requirement for the 6th grade.  The students are expected to earn 10 AR points for the 1st 9 weeks.  I expect you to be pacing your self and be at 5 points by the mid-point.

About Homework…

Language Arts encompasses Reading, Spelling, Writing, Grammar, and Vocabulary. Every homework assignment is worth two points. When an assignment has not been completed, a zero will be recorded in the grade book. Students will have a chance to gain back 1 of the 2 points lost due to an incomplete assignment, if it is brought back to me by the end of 5thperiod study hall. You can keep track of your 6thgrader’s
missed assignments in the planner (I will stamp it) and on CSIU. I will update homework points daily.

About Accelerated Reader…

The sixth grade requirement this year is based on student need and level. All sixth grade students will not have the same point goal. Total points will be averaged into the student’s overall Language Arts grade. Students will hear novel read-alouds and have daily silent reading time to help them reach their goals. It is crucial that your 6thgrader read outside of the classroom as well. Students have access to the amount of points they’ve earned by logging into the program at school. Please see the instructions, from the Librarian, to access your sixth graders point amounts from home!! Parents will also have access to the amount of points by logging into CSIU and accessing their 6thgrader’s Language Arts grades. I will update the points in the grade book at midpoint and the end of the nine weeks.

About Planners…

The planner is an invaluable resource for your 6thgrader. You will find it will be the same for you as well, to keep informed of student assignments, teacher communication, and below average grades. Planners are to be carried to all classes. All assignments, tests, and projects will be recorded in the planner on a daily basis. It is strongly recommended that parents/guardians check and sign the planner each night. IF incomplete homework assignments become a problem, parent signatures will be required. Teacher notification of incomplete homework assignments and below average grades will be marked in the planner.
