NJHS Interest Letters

Students in 7th and 8th grade with a 3.5 or above cumulative GPA for the 2019-2020 school year are eligible to apply for the National Junior Honor Society. To be considered, you must submit an interest letter to Mrs. Steff or Ms. Lash prior to January 29th. Letters were distributed in homeroom. Extra copies are available in the library.

Hopewell Showcase

The Hopewell Showcase will be on January 31st at 6pm in Gym A. For more details see the attached flyer.

7th/8th Valentine's Dance

 The Book Club and Video Announcements Club will be sponsoring a Valentine's Dance for 7th & 8th grade students on Friday, February 7th from 7pm-9pm. Cost is $5 to attend. See you there!

5th/6th Grade Social - Masquerade

Water Bottles

Hopewell Memorial Junior High School will allow students to have water bottles in the classrooms with the following considerations:

• The container must contain water only. No juice, soda, energy drinks, etc.
• The container must have a closeable lid.
• The student will be responsible to fill the bottle between classes. A student may not leave class to fill a bottle.
• Bottles are not to be in close proximity to ANY technology whether in the classroom, lab or library.
• Water bottles are not to be played with on school grounds or on district transportation.

Any failure to follow the above will result in the student losing the privilege of having water in the classrooms.

Important Reminders to Parents/Guardians

Doors to the Junior High School open daily at 7:30 AM.

Parents/guardians dropping off students in the morning are asked to adjust schedules so as to prevent any child from being unsupervised on school grounds until the time (7:30 AM) when the doors officially open.

To prevent being marked tardy, students are expected to be in their assigned homeroom by the start of school (8:00 AM).

Any visitor to the Jr. High MUST have identification available upon entering the building. This will prevent delays with an early dismissal or during a health related emergency. Students will not be released to any individual that does not have identification available or is not noted on the emergency contact document.

Throughout the year, parents/guardians MUST contact the Jr. High office if there is a change of address, phone number or emergency contact information. Accurate, up-to-date information is essential to prevent any delays when faced with an emergency situation.

Additionally, it is never too early for families to devise a plan with their child should school be delayed, cancel or an unexpected early dismissal occurs.

All student cell phones MUST BE POWERED OFF completely before entering the Jr. High school each day. Headphones, earbuds, etc. ARE NOT to be visible at any point during the school day, except during teacher-approved in-class instructional times. Cell phones may be POWERED ON following dismissal (2:55 PM). At no time are students permitted to use their cell phone during the school day, to include contacting parents/guardians when feeling ill. When ill, students will report to the nurse. The school nurse will then contact the child’s parent/guardian. Parents/Guardians are asked to remind their child of these expectations in order to prevent disciplinary consequences that will also require parents/guardians to retrieve a confiscated device from the Jr. High Office.

Safe2Say Something

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General. Safe2Say Something (S2SS) teaches youth how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late.
