About the Teacher
Hi! My name is Katie Snyder and I am a proud Hopewell graduate- Go Vikings! This is my fourth year teaching the Life Skills classroom at Independence Elementary. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Gannon University, two Master’s Degrees from Robert Morris University in Instructional Leadership in Elementary Education and Literacy.

About the Paraprofessionals
I have four paraprofessionals in my classroom this year: Mrs. Schwalm, Mrs. Oldham, Ms. Stewart and Mr. Burton. The paraprofessionals work very closely with each of the students in the classroom and are a big part of their education. They are an extremely important aspect of our classroom. So if you see one of them, please make sure you share your appreciation for their on-going hard work.

About the Classroom
There are five rules that the students are expected to follow each day in the Life Skills classroom. They are:
1. Listen when others are talking
2. Keep hands and feet to yourself
3. Raise your hand
4. Follow all directions when given
5. Walk

Communication
I believe that parent-teacher communication is very important-especially in this classroom. Teamwork works best and if we all are on the same page, we can give your child the best possible education. Therefore, I try to write home 2-3 days per week to inform you about their day. There is a space for you to write back with any questions, comments or concerns pertaining to your child. You can also reach me through email: [email protected] or via telephone: 724-375-6691 ext. 6310.
