Mrs. Ganoe’s Class
Rm #: 101

Welcome! I am so excited you’re a part of our classroom! I look forward to learning new things together!  Please take a minute to read this information. Should you have any questions regarding its content or anything else pertaining to our classroom, feel free to contact me.

Teacher Philosophy:  I am here to facilitate learning and development of the whole child. It is my job to cover the third grade content while working to meet the student's
social, emotional, and adademic needs.  I believe student needs are as individual as each child.  Just as we don't expect our children to learn to walk or ride a bike at exactly the same time, I don't expect all third grade children to learn everything at exactly the same time.  We will work togethter - parent/student/teacher - to reach our greatest potential!

Parent/Teacher Communication:  In order to keep you informed of your child’s academic and behavioral progress, we will use several forms of communication.

·Planners:  Plannerswill be sent home with your child nightly. The Planner has your child’s homework for each night and any notes that I have written inside.

·Parent Conferences:  Parents are welcome to schedule conferences with me at any time; I only ask that these be scheduled in advance. I am not able to conference at times when I am with my students (i.e. in the morning as students arrive).

·Phone calls/Notes/email:  I will send notes home in the student’s Planner or make a phone call if necessary. I am available to receive calls after 3:45
pm. You may email me if you prefer; however, if it is urgent, please call the school office as I do not check my mail during instructional time and will not be able to respond to phone messages until the end of the school day.

Homework:  If homework is assigned, it is necessary. I do not assign work just to give homework. Often if a student has homework, it is to complete an assignment that was started in class. If you find your child is spending more than an hour on homework nightly, please let me know. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL EVERYONE IS EXASPERATED!

*All homework assignments will be written in the Planner for you to sign nightly.

I will initial or star your student’s Planner each morning. The parent should sign the Planner each evening, even if there is no homework. Please be sure to sign your student’s Planner when asked each night.

Conduct/Discipline:  I believe that every child has the right to a quality education without disruption.    It is my desire to do my very best to continue to provide a safe and positive learning environment for your child. With this in mind, I have designed a classroom behavior       program. My program includes five basic  rules  for  behavior and a list of appropriate consequences. The five rules closely resemble our school-wide rules.

Rules

1. Follow directions the first time given.

2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

3. Use respectful language

4. Stay in seat unless you have permission to get up.

5. Raise your hand and wait before you speak.

Consequences

1. Verbal Warning

2. 1 Block – 5 minutes off of recess

3. 2 Blocks – 10 minutes off of recess

4. 3 Blocks – 15 minutes off of recess

5. 4 Blocks – Miss entire recess and possible conference with the principal.
with the principal.

Tardies:  Please call the office by 9:00 a.m. if your child is going to be absent. Please request make-up work at this time so we can have it available for pick up by 3:00 p.m. You will also need to provide a written excuse upon the child’s arrival back to school. Students who are absent for Dr. appointments need to bring a note from the Dr.’s office to excuse their absence. All absence notes should be received within 3 days of the student returning from school. Students who check out early also need a note.

I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect this year. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
